The Sun Destination season is off to a good start with the commencement of charter service at Fredericton International Airport this week.
The airport was bustling with eager travellers awaiting the first direct flight of the season to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic on Monday.
“The first flight was definitely full”, said Melodie Beal, Public Relations & Marketing Manager of the Fredericton International Airport Authority Inc. “There were even people arriving five hours ahead of the departure time.”
Vacation packages are selling well in the region, prompting Sunwing Airlines to add another flight to Varadero, Cuba on Fridays and giving New Brunswickers a third choice to fly direct from Fredericton to Caribbean destinations.
CanJet Airlines departs every Monday from February 22 to May 3 to Puerto Plata with packages available through Transat Holidays, Signature Vacations, and Sunquest.
Sunwing departs every Monday from March 15 to April 26 and every Friday from March 26 to April 30 to Varadero.
“We were very pleased with the additional capacity recently announced by Sunwing to Varadero”, said David Innes, President & CEO of the Fredericton International Airport Authority Inc.
“It shows that even with economic uncertainty New Brunswickers are still looking to getaway for a while during the winter season.”
